Founder and Creator, Black Moms Breastfeed Instagram Account, Nurse, and Lactation Consultant
Shantae McGee is a Registered Nurse, Certified Lactation Consultant, and advocate for moms. In 2015, she created the Instagram page @BlackMomsBreastfeed to foster community and encourage Black moms to breastfeed their babies. Since launching the page has grown tremendously and has become a source of encouragement and information for new mom looking for support.
Originally from the Midwest, Shantae now lives in the Northeast, works as a nurse and lactation consultant and teaches a class for new moms. Shantae received her bachelors of science degree (B.S.) in community health with a focus in health planning and administration from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and her masters of science in nursing (M.S.N. ) from Rush University College of Nursing in Chicago, IL. Knowing that mother/baby nursing was what she was truly passionate about, Shantae became a postpartum nurse and achieved her designation as a Certified Lactation Counselor. Shantae is committed to achieving healthcare equity and overcoming healthcare disparities in the United States.
