Safe Handling of Human Milk within the Healthcare Setting
Providing breast milk to a hospitalized infant is generally a more complex process than directly breastfeeding a healthy baby. The safe handling and preparation of breast milk feedings within the hospital setting are often taken for granted, and, as with many performance improvement initiatives, the process may not be scrutinized until problems arise. This presentation will review the risks associated with the handling of human milk within the healthcare setting and outline best practices that have been shown to improve patient safety.
