The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the use of human milk and breastfeeding in the NICU

This one-hour webinar will present the evolving impact of the current COVID-19 pandemic on the practices of human milk use and breastfeeding in the NICU. The session will focus on the possible role of regional, national and international guidelines for COVID-19 on the complex and integrated support for human milk and breastfeeding. The speaker will present the current science regarding COVID-19 and how it has shaped our NICU environment and practices to alter human milk provision. With the crisis continuing, advocacy for protecting and supporting the fundamental elements around human milk use and breastfeeding in the NICU will be essential.


Objectives:

-Describe the support elements for the provision of human milk and breastfeeding in the NICU

-Outline the basic known facts of COVID-19 as it relates to developing guidelines around human milk and   breastfeeding in the NICU

-Define the key ways that we may be able to advocate for mothers to safely produce enough milk and breastfeed their babies in the NICU
